There are many ways to volunteer your time. You can make such a positive impact if you have the time and we appreciate it! Whether you are a medical professional, engineer, computer programmer or a lawyer or have experience in construction or rebuilding, or simply an extra hand to lend – Puerto Rico needs you!

If you do not currently live in Puerto Rico, it is highly recommended that you find an established organization to volunteer with and contact them BEFORE making your way to Puerto Rico. Otherwise, you may end up as another mouth to feed, as water and food are not easy to find.

In response to Hurricane Maria, the Center for Volunteer Development will be mobilizing volunteers to help shelters and relief and recovery organizations after a natural disaster.

National Voluntary Organizations Active in Disaster

If you have coding, programming, or technical skills, Startups of Puerto Rico has opened a registry to connect with organizations or agencies with pressing needs in Puerto Rico. This “inventory” of talent will be connected with opportunities to help develop support services or create and innovate new solutions.


Doctors Brigades 

A group of health organizations are helping to organize brigades of doctors and other health experts.
The National Alliance for Hispanic Health, a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of Hispanics, has teamed up with Project HOPE, an organization that specializes in bringing medicines and health experts to areas impacted by disasters. Specifically, it is expected that they will be looking for internists, infectious disease experts, family physicians, registered nurses, nurse practitioners, and mental health professionals.

The Emergency System for Advance Registration of Volunteer Health Professionals (ESAR-VHP)

A federal program created to support states and territories in establishing standardized volunteer registration programs for disasters and public health and medical emergencies.
